About us

Are you tired of fitness brands and influencers that make you feel insecure, like you're not good enough, and you have to be fit to fit in? We are too.

🙌 We believe that fitness is for everybody.

🎉 You should sweat to feel good, not because you want to "look good".

💙 You exercise to take care of your mental, physical, and emotional health.

At SHINE, we love you exactly the way you are. We don't want you to change your body, we want you to change how you see yourself.

Join us in changing the narrative around fitness, body image, mental health, and eating disorders.

redefining fitness

We are a group fitness company redefining what a fitness company is. We have one goal: build your confidence.  We want to help you strengthen your inner sense of self worth and believe that you are enough.

At SHINE, we throw traditional fitness metrics to the side. We will never

❌  Ask about your "fitness goals"

❌  Give you a nutrition plan

❌  Encourage before and after pictures.

We are NOT a max out, tone up, measure "progress", stick to a diet kinda company.

We ARE a positive body image, eat the dang treats, rest often, mental health, and measure how you feel kinda company.

We will:

✅  Tell you're enough, exactly the way you are

✅  Challenge you physically to build mental strength

✅  Teach you how to use exercise as an outlet for stress & emotions

how it started

Hey, it's Jess here! 🙋‍♀️

I'm the Founder of SHINE, recent university grad, full-time entrepreneur, retired dancer, and coffee lover.

I quit competitive dance when I was 16, and I felt so lost. I missed being on a team, activity that was actually fun, and  having an hour of my day where I could burn stress and feel free.

I joined a gym and soon fell into a spiral of toxic fitness culture. I struggled with confidence, body image issues, disordered eating habits and over-exercising for 5 years - and I don't want anyone else to.

When I found group fitness, I fell in love. I got certified as soon as I turned 18 and started teaching for my university gym. I taught there for 2 years and that's where I developed the SHINE format.

When I combined the challenging, fun class format with the messages I wish I heard when I was struggling with confidence, SHINE took off!

I'm so glad you're here & I hope you stick around.

I'm cheering you on!

XOXO,

Jess

is shine for you?

👉 Have you ever looked in the mirror and picked yourself apart with things you "need to change" to be happy with your body?

👉 Been embarrassed in an exercise class or gym because you felt like you weren't cool enough to be there, or like you needed to be fit to fit in?

👉 Wanted to wear an outfit but been too self conscious of your body?

👉 Felt guilty for eating “cheat foods” or skipping a workout?

👉 Tried a 21 day challenge, cleanse, or cut out an "unhealthy food group" before a big event so you deserved the fun?

👉 Checked your fitness tracker after a workout and felt disappointed that you only burned X calories?

we have too.

If you answered yes to any (or all) of those questions, SHINE is for you. Those questions are signs you have been a victim of diet culture.

Coming from

  • Diet culture dropouts

  • Recovering perfectionists

  • Obsessive high-achievers

  • Girls that have struggled with confidence, imposter syndrome, body image, disordered eating habits, and nearly every other negative outcome of diet culture...

We promise there's a better way to live.

You don't need to live in a constant state of anxiety, self-deprecation and feeling unworthy.

You deserve so much better.

You owe it to yourself to break those bad habits. They are not your fault, but YOU are the only one with the power to change them.

Start treating yourself they way you would treat your best friend. Start hyping yourself up. Start believing you can do hard things.

PS. SHINE is a great place to start :)
