Introduction

Welcome back to another episode of Shine Stories! Today, we’re joined by an amazing guest—Kiren Miller, or as we affectionately call her, K Money! Kiren’s journey with SHINE FIT is one of growth, confidence, and finding joy in movement. If you’ve ever wondered how fitness can transform not just your body but your mindset, you’re in for a treat!

From Schoolmates to SHINE Family

Kiren and Jess have known each other since their time at Queen’s University. Kiren was two years behind Jess, studying commerce while Jess pursued business. Though they were in different years, their shared love for fitness brought them together. In March 2020, when Jess started offering free Instagram Live workouts during the pandemic, Kiren was one of the first to jump in.

I was so hooked from day one,” Kiren shares. “I ran upstairs and told my mom, ‘This is the best thing I’ve ever done!’” And from there, Kiren became a loyal participant, joining almost every class, and eventually helping with social media, then becoming an instructor in the fall of 2020.

The Evolution of SHINE: From Online to In-Person

Kiren’s journey with SHINE mirrors the company’s growth—from virtual Instagram classes to in-person community-building. The early days were all about staying connected during the pandemic, but as the community grew, Jess knew it was time to move things offline.

Jess asked me to bring a speaker to a park class, and I thought that was the craziest day of my life,” Kiren laughs. “I met Jess in person for the first time after months of online classes, and I was shaking. I thought I was meeting a celebrity!

Since then, Kiren has been a crucial part of the SHINE FIT team, from behind the scenes to instructing on the front lines, helping others experience the same transformative journey that she’s gone through.

From Competitive Dance to SHINE FIT Instructor

Kiren has always been passionate about movement, growing up as a competitive dancer. But her relationship with fitness hit a bit of a lull during university. “I didn’t really know what to do. I hated it,” she admits. “I was going to the gym but didn’t really enjoy it. Then, when the pandemic hit, I was desperate to find something, and that’s when I found SHINE.

I was hooked right away,” Kiren reflects. “SHINE combined dance with fitness in a way that I had never experienced before. It was active, fun, and challenging.”

What SHINE Has Taught Kiren About Fitness

Through her journey with SHINE, Kiren has learned to approach fitness in a new way. “Movement isn’t a punishment anymore,” she says. “It’s something I celebrate. I get to move my body, and that’s something I’ve really come to appreciate.

I also learned that you don’t have to work out every day to be an active person. Movement can be part of your life, but it doesn’t have to control it,” Kiren explains. “Before, I thought I had to be working out constantly to stay fit, but now I know it’s just part of the balance.”

Kiren’s transformation wasn’t just physical—it was mental as well. Through her work as an instructor, she has built confidence, not just in her own body but in her ability to inspire others.

Building Confidence and Owning Your Journey

Kiren admits that there was a time when she was hesitant to call herself a fitness instructor. “I didn’t think I looked like a fitness instructor,” she recalls. “I was afraid people would judge me. But now, I’m proud of it. It’s not about how I look—it’s about what I can do and how I can help others.”

She encourages those just starting their fitness journey to embrace the process, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. “Don’t be intimidated by the crazy moves,” she says. “We’re all here to help. It takes time to learn, but that’s part of the fun!

The Importance of the SHINE Community

What Kiren loves most about SHINE is the supportive and inclusive community. “No one here is judging you,” she explains. “We’re all here to support each other, no matter where we are in our journey. It’s a place where you can be yourself and celebrate your wins, no matter how big or small.”

The SHINE community has been instrumental in Kiren’s growth. From the early days of following along with the Instagram Lives to now leading classes, the connection to others and the encouragement from fellow members has been vital in her transformation.

Final Thoughts: “You Get to Move Your Body”

Kiren wraps up her story with a powerful message: “You get to move your body. It’s not a punishment. It’s a celebration.” This mindset shift has changed the way she views fitness and movement. No longer is it about “having to” work out—it’s about enjoying the experience and appreciating her body for what it can do.

We’re so grateful for Kiren’s journey and for the light she brings to SHINE. Her story is a testament to the power of finding joy in movement and building confidence, not just in how we look but in what our bodies can achieve.
