About The Event
Start Women's History Month by acknowledging and embracing your womanhood and femininity.
Reggaeton is a dance style characterized by rhythmic hip movements and close physical contact between partners. When women engage in Perreo, they often take an active role, showcasing their agency and autonomy in the dance.Â
The dance's impact on women is multifaceted, allowing them to assert their confidence, embrace their sensuality, and challenge traditional gender norms by leading the dance. While Perreo has faced criticism for its explicit nature, many view it as a platform for women to express themselves, fostering a sense of empowerment and liberation on the dance floor.
This workshop is an intro to deep-dive Latin Dance: Reggaeton Edition. You will learn the mind-body rhythm connection, basic hip mobility-opening exercises, and the dance moves of shimmies, dembow, perreo, twerk, body, and hip rolls. It is a safe space for moving and connecting with our bodies.

Who is teaching it?
Hi, my name is Gabriela. I am originally from Colombia and have lived in Canada for 1.5 years. I have been dancing, especially Latin rhythms like Salsa, merengue, and bachata. But my specialty is Reggaeton/Perreo because it is the only Latin dance genre where women have the lead and can dance by themselves.  In addition, I’m passionate about hip and spine mobility because stress, trauma, and anxiety are trapped energy in our bodies. Why not dance to release it?
